Installation

Diane’s installation work draws together the conceptual and the domestic through sewing, knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving and embroidery.

“Maternal Strings”, created from crocheted nylon and glass beads was installed at The Royal Botanical Gardens in Hobart in 2011 and measures 4 x 4 metres.

A finalist in the Fibre category of the 2012 Hobart Art Prize, Diane’s entry, “Blanket Restraint”, was exhibited at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Hobart in October 2012. Constructed from prison blankets, a dichotomy is immediately evident. The rich texture of the blankets represents warmth and practicality but at the same time subjugation and brutality. Our Life Force, the chain stitched heart links an internal stength to an utimate desire for survival.
